International investment in Limerick will bring 600 jobs to the city – O’Donnell

Today’s announcement of international investment in Limerick by Edwards Life Sciences is a real boost for the city and county, Limerick Senator Kieran O’ Donnell has said.

Casletroy based Kieran O’Donnell was commenting on the news that Edwards Life Sciences are constructing a new facility in Castletroy, investing €160 million and planning to employ up to 600 people.

Edwards Life Sciences is a global leader in patient-focused innovations for structural heart disease and critical care monitoring, and they are based in California.

Welcoming the announcement, Senator O’Donnell said: “I understand that this new facility is set to open in 2021 bringing up to 600 highly skilled jobs to Limerick and the surrounding region, when it is fully operational.

“This is a real confirmation that Limerick is an attractive place for international investment. We have excellent transport links, close proximity to Shannon airport and a highly educated and skilled workforce.

“As Taoiseach, Leo Varadkar confirmed during his visit to Limerick, we are planning for the city to grow by at least 50 percent over the next two decades. This will be achieved through enhanced regional accessibility, improved international connectivity and a competitive, educated workforce.

“The latest CSO figures published this week show that the Live Register in Limerick City decreased over 60% since 2012 when Fine Gael launched its Action Plan for Jobs. The Government is working to ensure that Limerick continues to grow and develop to the benefit of all its citizens.”
