O’Donnell welcomes €290,000 for Limerick Greenways

-€140,000 for Limerick to Scarrif Greenway under Waterways Ireland from Black Bridge, Plassey on the River Shannon

-€150,000 for Limerick Greenway along Great Southern Greenway

Limerick Fine Gael TD Kieran O’Donnell has confirmed funding €290,000 Greenway funding as part of the Greenways Strategy. This includes €140,000 for Limerick to Scariff Greenway and €150,000 for Limerick Greenway (part of Great Southern Greenway).

Deputy Kieran O’Donnell said: “Our greenway plays an important role in supporting local communities to create jobs and brings visitors to our area.

“I am delighted to see these worthwhile projects progressed and that funding has been allocated for the planned greenway from Black Bridge in Plassey on the River Shannon adjacent to the University of Limerick along a 41km towards Scarrif, Co. Clare.

“As we have seen over the course of the lockdown, people are eager to get out into nature and avail of the stunning scenery in our country.

“This funding will support the Greenways Strategy and help local authorities around the country prepare Greenway projects to be ready for construction funding in the coming years.

“Our local greenway will encourage tourism in the future, and will also provide a safe, segregated space for people walking and cycling”
