Limerick Fine Gael TD Kieran O’Donnell has today welcomed the approval of funding from the Department of Education under the Additional School Accommodation Scheme 2021 for the construction of 4 new classrooms and 2 Special Education Needs classrooms at St. Brigid’s National School, Singland, Limerick. This school building project has been devolved to Limerick & Clare Education & Training Board(LCETB) who bring a wealth of experience in the delivery of school building projects locally.

The project will now proceed to the appointment of a design team, apply for planning permission to Limerick City & County Council, followed by a tender process to appoint building contractors and then build the 6 new classrooms. It is planned to have the new classrooms open for staff and pupils by the end of 2023.

In the interim until the 6 classrooms are built, the school will proceed this year to have a temporary designated SEN classroom, in a new temporary pre-fab which will accommodate 6 pupils from the start of the next academic year at the end of August.

“I am delighted to have received direct confirmation from the Department of Education of their approval of funding for the construction of 4 brand new classrooms and 2 special education classrooms, with 3 Special Education Teacher (SET) rooms and WC for St. Brigid’s National School, Singland, Limerick.

“Having actively engaged with the Department on behalf of the School to ensure this much needed school building project was progressed as quickly as possible, I am very pleased to see that funding has now been approved for these purpose built classrooms ensuring a greatly improved learning environment for all children attending the school and for future pupils.

“This is very welcome news for St Bridget’s NS staff and pupils. I wish to commend the school Principal Sarah Ryan and the board of management on their tireless work on this key new classrooms project for their school.
