O’Donnell welcomes Strong Progress on Crescent College Comprehensive, Dooradoyle new science block and building refurbishment project
- New School building works expected to get underway before end of this year and to be finished by September 2023
Limerick Fine Gael TD Kieran O’Donnell has welcomed the direct confirmation he has received from the Department of Education of further progress on the Crescent College Comprehensive’s major new School building project. This will see the construction of a new state-of-art 5 science laboratories block together with a roof replacement and a complete refurbishment of the existing school building. Deputy O’Donnell has been working with the school and school principal Diarmuid Mullins on this project over the last 2 years.
“Having engaged with the Department of Education on behalf of Crescent College Comprehensive secondary School to ensure this much needed school project was progressed and expedited, I am very pleased to confirm that the Department have agreed to my request to authorise the design team to commence the pre-qualification process to select a shortlist of contractors for this project. This is being granted by the Department in parallel with the review of the Stage 2(b) report submitted to the Department for review on 4th January 2021.
“This major new school building project at Crescent College Comprehensive will see the construction of a new state-of-art 5 science laboratories block together with a roof replacement and a complete refurbishment of the existing school building. Currently the school has 4 classroom laboratories within the existing school building, which will now be converted back into and provide 4 new additional regular classrooms on top of the new state-of-art 5 science laboratories block to be built.
“Following the appointment of building contractors after the tender process, it is expected that construction work on the school will get underway by the end of this year. The school build period is expected to be between 18 months to 2 years, with a target opening date of September 2023 for the new science laboratories block and refurnished existing school building. When this major new school building project is completed, it will be a fantastic enhancement in teaching facilities for the 900 students and teaching staff, particularly in the sciences area, with the state-of-art new 5 science laboratories block.
“I wish to compliment the School principal Diarmuid Mullins, school board and chair Helen O’Donnell and all at Crescent College Comprehensive on the hard work over the past number of years in progressing this vital project.
“Furthermore, I look forward to continuing to work with all at Crescent College Comprehensive to ensure this major school and state-of-art 5 science laboratories building and overall school refurbishment project is built as quickly as possible.
